Alaska-based salmon processor Silver Bay Seafoods has entered the troubled California ‘wetfish’ business by purchasing assets from now defunct United Coast Seafoods, sources told Undercurrent News.
United Coast, itself the successor to wetfish catcher and processor Tomich Brothers which exited the business in 2014, ceased operations in October last year. After a sale process, Silver Bay bought assets including a three-year lease for a cold storage facility in Wilmington, California as well as most of the assets used to pack the fish such as fish tanks, racks and packing tables, a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Undercurrent [...]
