Australian uncooked shrimp imports are still "a relative trickle" despite the country’s import ban due to a whitespot disease outbreak being lifted on July 6, say industry sources
“Shrimp imports are not back to normal,” a source with an industry association who did not wish to be quoted by name told Undercurrent News (source A). “The trade suspension has only recently been lifted and so far there is little evidence of supplier nations being ready to meet the new import rules, particularly pre-export PCR [polymerase chain reaction] testing, even though they have agreed to do so.”
The situation was confirmed by another source, fishing wild-caught shrimp off Australia (source B), who said while cargo is still moving compared with before the ban it is "a relative trickle” [...]
