Dozens of chefs in British Columbia have joined a First Nations group in calling for an end to net-pen salmon farming in the province, the Keremos Review reported
Fifty chefs and the Vancouver Island First Nation signed a letter to the province's agriculture minister, Lana Popham, and forest minister, Doug Donaldson asking the government not to renew the licenses of 20 salmon farms sited in the Broughton Archipelago.
"These farms put millions of Atlantic salmon right in the path of the migration routes of wild Pacific salmon," the letter states, asking the province to consider offshore or land-based salmn farming instead.
