Norway’s Smir Group has signed a contract with Mowi to deliver one of the largest de-licing vessels in the industry. The “Hydro Patriot” vessel is 73 meters long and 16m wide and is equipped with eight hydraulic lines to de-lice farmed salmon.
The vessel will operate mainly for Mowi's region north and Nova Sea. The installation contract has been awarded to Fiskerstrand Verft in Sunnmore, with installation expected to take 11 weeks. Roger Pettersen, Mowi production manager, said: “We are very concerned about having the right capacity to meet the needs of our facilities. Gentle and effective [de-licing] treatment is important so that good lice control in all plants is observed. The new vessel will be an important tool in this work, and we look forward to getting the Hydro Patriot up and running.” Oyvind Nymark of Smir Group added: “We have had a long and good relationship with Mowi. They have been our partners in the development of Hydrolicer and are central to the establishment of the system. In 2015, we started the prototype together with Region North and since then Mowi has had the system in its organization as a tool for keeping control of lice levels.”
