Recall how president Donald Trump issued an executive order on June 24, giving the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) 60 days to set up a financial aid program for members of the US lobster industry that've been hurt by the trade war with China, similar to what's been done for the agriculture industry?
That deadline is up in three days, and the bipartisan members of Maine's delegation to the US Congress are beginning to worry that the administration might not deliver on that promise, The Hill reports.
"This 60-day period is now drawing to a close, but the [USDA] has yet to take any further action. We urge you to keep the President's promise and immediately assist the thousands of Mainers whose livelihoods depend on this critical industry," Maine's two US senators (Susan Collins, a Republican, and Angus King, an independent) and two US House members (Chellie Pingree and Jared Golden, both Democrats) say in a letter sent to the USDA [...]
