Following the conclusion of the internal investigation led by Norwegian law firm Wikborg Rein into its Namibian business, Icelandic fishing giant Samherji claims that analysis of its African subsidiaries shows it paid the market rates for fishing quotas during its time operating in the country.
Samherji has previously been accused by former employee and Wikileaks whistleblower Johannes Stefansson of paying bribes to key Namibian government officials and businessmen in return for discounts on horse mackerel fishing quotas, which were leased from state-owned business Fishcor and Namgomar, the firm granted quotas as part of the Angola-Namibia fisheries agreement [...]
