Are Subway Restaurants franchisees using real tuna in their tuna wraps and sandwiches?
The answer is "no" according to a proposed class-action lawsuit filed recently in a federal court in San Francisco, California. The complaint claims the restaurant chain, which is one of the world's largest with 41,600 locations in more than 100 countries, is duping customers by selling tuna wraps and sandwiches that are "completely bereft of tuna as an ingredient," Legal Newsline reports.
Rather, the restaurants are using a "mixture of various concoctions that do not constitute tuna, yet have been blended together by [Subway] to imitate the appearance of tuna", the lawsuit, filed Jan. 21, alleges.
