Trials for 'Feedkind', the alternative protein developed from natural gas by US manufacturer Calysta, have proven that it can successfully replace fishmeal in diets of Japanese yellowtail without any adverse consequences.
The yellowtail, locally known as hamachi, is one of the most popular fish in Japan, yet farmers often suffer with unpredictable feed costs.
