A new US Amendment 80 flatfish factory trawler managed by Glacier Fish Company (GFC) has started fishing about three years after a hurricane capsized the vessel at the Florida shipyard where it was under construction.
The 79.70-meter North Star is fishing in Alaska, making trips in and out of Dutch Harbor, according to data from Vessel Finder. North Star starts fishing as Alaska's Norton Sound Economic Development Corp. (NSEDC) has agreed to a deal to buy the Breivik family's stake in the company, as reported by Undercurrent News on Wednesday.
The vessel was completed by the Eastern Shipbuilding Group yard in Panama City, Florida, earlier this year. Then the ship's processing factory was installed while it was docked at Pier 91 in Seattle, Washington, where GFC is based. Vessel Finder shows North Star headed for Alaska on Sept. 18.
