Officials in the Chinese port city of Dalian have suspended the operations of all companies in the frozen seafood and food supply chain amid a COVID-19 outbreak, according to reports in the local media.
Between Nov. 4 and 8, there were 45 new COVID cases in the city, which is a major hub for importing, processing and exporting whitefish such as cod, haddock and pollock, as well as wild salmon. These include 16 workers at Dalian Keqiang Food Co., a cold storage and seafood processing company in Zhuanghe, in the northeastern part of the port.
As a result, Dalian's authorities informed all cold chain food companies in the city -- including designated and bonded cold storage, third-party warehouses, processors, and sales companies -- to suspend operations as of Nov. 8. It's not clear how long the suspension will last.
