Canada's second-largest snow crab fishery also gets 8% quota increase as wholesale prices keep sinkingThere is going to be a lot of snow crab coming out of Canada, even as wholesale prices continue to fall. The country's Department of Fisheries and Oceans has announced an 8.3% increase in quota in the Southern Gulf of Saint Lawrence, giving the areas 12, 12E, 12F and 19 as much as a combined 35,216 metric tons of total allowable catch. Oregon, not just California, might face a Chinook salmon fishery closureThe effort to preserve Chinook salmon in the US Pacific Northwest that could force the closure of California's fishery this year might also cause a closure or restrictions in perhaps half of Oregon's waters. The Pacific Fishery Management Council is conferencing this week and will determine what will happen to California's fishery, with no decision yet announced, but expected by Saturday.
