Bristol Bay fishermen, community jeer sockeye base pricesUS salmon harvesters and the wider Bristol Bay, Alaska, community are up in arms over the announced sockeye base pricing this year.
One anonymous member of the Bristol Bay Fishermen Facebook group called for a blockade of the Naknek River on July 18 in response to base pricing announcements from Trident Seafoods and Peter Pan Seafood. Both Trident and Peter Pan are offering a dry base of $0.50 per pound and a fully-loaded base price of around $0.80/lb. Peter Pan has also offered a late-season sweetener of $0.20/lb.
