Last week's most-read story was the news that the wholesale prices for Norwegian snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio) might be the cheapest in the US for now, but one big importer doesn't believe it'll stay that way for long. "The product quality has been very good, especially this year and last year," said Roman Tkachenko, CEO of Bellevue, Washington-based Direct Source Seafood. "The pricing being cheaper than Canadian is just [the] market condition today," he said. "Product cost was cheaper than in Canada this year and people can sell cheaper. I do not think this will stay this way next year as we believe the quality of the product is as good as gulf crab."
