Scotland's Organic Sea Harvest has submitted revised plans for fish farms on Skye's northeast coast, following previous rejections, the BBC reported.
The company -- which is owned by Norway's Blue Resource Group, Dutch firm Visscher Seafood and Canadian importer DOM International -- is again seeking the Highland Council's approval to build 10 salmon cages each near Flodigarry and Balmaqueen.
Previous proposals for 12 cages at each site were denied by councillors and a Scottish government-appointed official on appeal. Planning officials have recommended the approval of the new plans, as they did before.
"Before, our application ticked every box but was denied for the visual impact there would have been," Ove Thu -- CEO of Blue Resource and chair of Organic Sea Harvest -- told Undercurrent News earlier this year. "In the meantime, though, we have felt a change in attitude in the local area, we see letters of support from the community which appreciates the support and jobs we bring to the area."
Organic Sea Harvest, operating two existing farms, collaborated with the Scottish government, regulators, and Highland Council to refine its proposals, emphasizing its commitment to local communities and economic benefits.
However, former councilor Calum MacLeod expressed disappointment, citing persistent concerns about the impact on the scenic area and local sentiment.
The Highland Council will soon decide on the updated proposals.
