The Norwegian government has named its steering group for a mission to increase the use of sustainable, home-produced ingredients in aquaculture feed.
The group will be led by Nils Vagstad, the former managing director of the Norwegian Institute for Bioeconomy, and also feature Leif Kjetil Skjaeveland of Skretting, Erik Olav Gracey from BioMar, and Kristin Alnes of Seafood Norway.
The government has launched a "community mission" with the goal that all feed for farmed fish and livestock come from sustainable sources by 2034. Today, the proportion of Norwegian-produced raw materials in aquaculture feed is 8%. The government aims to increase this to 25% by 2034.
"The steering group must ensure that climate and nature-related issues are taken care of, and they must contribute to maintaining the pressure on regulatory development and the link to circular economy in the social mission," said the government.
