Seafish, the public body supporting the UK seafood industry, has launched a new campaign titled "Seafood for Life" to help improve public perceptions of seafood and its production.
The initiative invites businesses and individuals within the industry to share positive stories that might otherwise go unheard.
The campaign aims to highlight various aspects of the seafood sector, such as technological and environmental advancements that enhance supply chain efficiency and resilience, employment opportunities created within communities, and the nutritional benefits of fish as a protein-rich food source. It also seeks to debunk common myths about the industry through real-life case studies.
Seafish plans to work closely with contributors to transform these stories into compelling content, including videos, photography, news articles, social media posts, and fact sheets, it said. This content will be available to seafood businesses, helping them communicate more effectively with the public about the industry's positive aspects. The stories will also be featured on a new online hub dedicated to the Seafood for Life campaign on the Seafish website.
Marcus Coleman, CEO of Seafish, encouraged people to support the campaign by submitting their stories, which could range from the industry's response to climate change to innovative practices in managing fishing gear or attracting new talent.
Though Seafish is leading the campaign, the organization hopes the industry will take ownership of Seafood for Life and help shape its future direction. Businesses are encouraged to contribute ideas and stories by contacting Seafish through a dedicated email.
