The Chilean salmon industry is highlighting the severe repercussions that rising electricity tariffs could have on the area's industrial development, Diario Acuicola reports.
Fernando Camiruaga, SalmonChile's representative in the Aysen region, recently raised the issue during a session of the commission of extreme zones in the Chilean chamber of deputies. High energy costs are impacting the competitiveness and sustainability of various industries in the region, threatening the community's overall development, he advised.
Camiruaga emphasized that the recent hike in energy prices affects not only the salmon farming industry but other critical sectors in Aysen. He pointed out that the energy cost increase contributes to a drop in the region's GDP, exacerbating existing issues like the lack of territorial planning and rising production costs.
Camiruaga expressed appreciation for the opportunity to present these concerns, stressing the need for long-term certainty to support the region's future.
