Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) has confirmed that farmed salmon from a recent escape at Killary Harbour in County Galway have been spotted in several rivers across Galway and Mayo, in western Ireland, reports The Journal.
The escape incident was reported on Aug. 11, 2024. According to IFI, the exact number of escaped salmon remains unclear due to the absence of identifiable markers.
Salmon Watch Ireland estimated that around 10,000 salmon escaped from the cages at Killary Harbour, though Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages suggested that the number could be as high as 30,000.
