Mowi has reported another escape of salmon, this time following a major breach at the Kveitskjeret fish farming site operated by the firm on behalf of Blue Revolution Centre.
The incident, which occurred on Sept. 24, resulted in the escape of approximately 13,500 salmon, each weighing an average of 5.5 kilograms. It recaptured 1,500 fish using escape nets.
This appears to have been a separate incident from an escape reported on Sept. 17, also at its Kveitskjeret facility, located in Froya.
Since the breach was discovered, Mowi has deployed recapture nets and led efforts to retrieve the escaped fish. Norway's directorate of fisheries has ordered an extension of recapture operations, so fishing will continue in the sea areas around Sula and Mausund, near Froya, until Sept. 30.
