Norwegian manufacturer FiiZK has secured a contract to supply two large closed fish cages to an undisclosed fish farmer in Norway, it announced.
The "Protectus" cages, each with a perimeter of 156 meters and a volume of approximately 30,000 cubic meters, will be manufactured at FiiZK's headquarters in Trondheim and its Mjatveit facility near Bergen.
"We have spent the past 12 months enhancing our products and focusing on closed and semi-closed fish cages. This contract confirms our strategic direction," said CEO Jan Erik Kvingedal.
The new cages incorporate advanced features from previous models, including a durable floating steel collar and a heavy-duty PVC tarpaulin barrier. They provide fresh, lice-free seawater through six intakes and effectively manage waste through a sludge trap. A sensor network ensures continuous monitoring of water quality, while automatic oxygen regulation systems enhance operational efficiency.
"We are experiencing strong and increasing interest for our closed cage systems. Our concept contributes towards more sustainable aquaculture production, which resonates with the demands and expectations of both our customers, authorities and the end consumer. We are proud to be part of this development," added Kvingedal.
The contract represents a successful turnaround for FiiZK following investments from Nekkar and BEWI Invest, which became major shareholders in August 2023.
The turnaround included selling FiiZK Digital to seafood investor Bluefront and divesting FiiZK Protection's lice skirt business to Icelandic company Hampidjan Group.
Going forward, FiiZK will focus solely on the sale of closed and semi-closed fish cages, as well as associated software, maintenance and services.
