The Pacific Dragon II, a US-flagged tuna longliner registered in Honolulu, Hawaii, had to call the US Coast Guard (USCG) for a medevac on Tuesday (Oct. 22) after a crew member fell ill, the USCG reports.
The crew member, only identified as a 35-year-old man, was on board the 70-foot vessel when he began to experience abdominal pain on Monday, according to the USCG. The Pacific Dragon II was approximately 78 miles offshore when it called the USCG Honolulu command center for a medevac request at 4:57 pm on Monday (Oct. 21).
"Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac," USCG confirmed.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point met the vessel in waters northeast of Kahului at 4:03 am on Tuesday. The crew member was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, Hawaii, where he is said to be in stable condition.
