Simak, a state-backed firm owned by Fisheries Development Oman, has officially launched its new line of commercial canned tuna products in the domestic market, Times of Oman reported.
The inauguration of commercial production at Simak’s cannery factory in Duqm coincided with the nation’s 54th National Day celebrations.
The new facility, located in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, utilizes "advanced" technology to produce over 100 million cans annually, which equates to more than 30,000 metric tons of raw seafood.
“We are thrilled to bring our high-quality, sustainably sourced canned fish products to Omani consumers," said Zakariya Al Hasni, CEO of Simak.
"Our commitment to quality, sustainability, and supporting the local economy is at the core of our operations. By sourcing raw materials from the Sea of Oman and the Indian Ocean, we ensure freshness and superior taste in every can."
Simak's operations include water conservation and the use of solar energy, in alignment with Oman’s Vision 2040 goals for food security and sustainable economic development.
Canned tuna products, which are already available in local supermarkets, will be joined in the coming months by canned mackerel, according to the firm.
Simak is also exploring opportunities in private labeling outside of Oman, as previously reported by Undercurrent News.
