Vietnam and Malaysia are poised to deepen their trade ties, particularly in the export of Vietnamese pangasius, reports Vietnam+.
Both countries are working to leverage regional trade agreements such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, aiming to boost their bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Malaysia is a key buyer of Vietnamese pangasius.
In the first 11 months of 2024, shipments of Vietnamese pangasius to Malaysia reached around $31 million, a year-on-year increase of over 21%.
VASEP also reported that frozen pangasius fillets are the most imported whitefish product into Malaysia, with Vietnam emerging as the dominant supplier. In fact, Vietnam accounts for 96% of Malaysia's imports in this category.
