Alastair Salvesen, a prominent figure in the UK seafood industry and former chairman of Dawnfresh Seafoods, Scot Trout and RR Spink & Sons, passed away at the age of 83, reports Daily Business.
He was a member of Scotland's Salvesen family, known for founding the Christian Salvesen whaling and shipping company in 1846. He was also involved in various industries, including electronics, housing, and offshore drilling.
In addition to his business and philanthropic efforts, Salvesen was committed to environmental conservation and funding projects like a Grey Partridge initiative on his farm. He served as president of the Royal Highland Agricultural Society of Scotland from 2001 to 2002.
Dawnfresh went into insolvency in 2023, with the processing part acquired by Associated Seafoods, with Mowi buying its trout farms.
