Mowi has reported a fish escape incident at its Kviteberg site in Troms county, which occurred over the weekend of Dec. 21-22.
The escape was discovered during a routine delousing operation, Mowi said.
The company has set up recovery nets around the site and, as of Dec. 23, has managed to recapture 13 fish with an average weight of just under 2 kg. The full extent of the escape is still unclear, and further efforts are ongoing to recover any remaining escaped fish.
Norway's directorate of fisheries has confirmed that it will follow up the incident with an inspection in accordance with standard procedures. The inspection will focus on assessing the company's response and ensuring that all necessary measures are in place to mitigate any potential environmental impact.
As investigations continue, the cause of the escape and the scope of the incident are expected to be clarified in more detail.
