The China-Maldives free trade agreement (FTA) came into effect on Jan. 1, 2025, eliminating tariffs on over 95% of products traded between the two, reports Bastille Post Global.
Businesses in east China's Shandong Province, a major export hub, anticipated significant benefits.
The agreement covers diverse products, including Chinese exports of vessels, steel, and ceramics and Maldivian exports of seafood and wooden ornaments.
According to Qingdao Customs, Shandong industries are projected to save CNY 8 million ($1.1m) in tariffs within the first year.
