Nashville, Tennessee-based US seafood restaurant chain Captain D's has signed a 20-unit franchise agreement to expand into the UK, marking its first European venture.
The agreement, announced on Jan. 16, will bring Captain D's seafood offerings to the London area in 2025. The chain will bid to win locals over to its take on battered fish and chips, while it also offers grilled fish dishes.
This milestone follows Captain D's recent expansion into Toronto, Canada, reflecting its broader international growth strategy, it said as part of its announcement.
"We are highly enthused to bring our unique brand to the United Kingdom," said CEO Phil Greifeld. "Captain D's will bring our crave-able seafood to the guests of the UK," he said.
The chain's restaurant designs and versatile menu, featuring seafood and chicken options, should resonate with UK consumers, according to the firm.
The UK agreement underscores the brand's focus on sustainable and impactful expansion, according to Hair Parra, senior vice president of international operations and development. "The UK is a key market with immense potential," he said.
Currently operating over 530 locations across 23 US states, Captain D's positions itself as a fast-casual seafood chain. The company is actively seeking franchise partners for further international expansion in regions such as Central and Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, and Southeast Asia.
The first UK location is set to open later this year.
