Marfrio diversifies into pre-fried hake blocks
Undercurrent News got a glimpse of Marfrio's new pre-fried line of hake blocks as it visited the Spanish company's plant in Marin, Galicia.
Marfrio launched the new products at the Seafood Expo Global trade fair in the Belgian capital of Brussels in May this year.
Until recently, the company’s Marin plant had only been for producing pre-cooked food but, due to a lack of space after the recent introduction of pre-fried products made of giant squid, Marfrio improved its Pralisa plant in Portugal with new equipment.
Marfrio has recently invested €1.8 million into new pre-cooked products and processing machines, while also acquiring a 60% stake in Vieira Peru in 2013.
The Spanish frozen seafood processor has just upped its stake at the Paita-based plant to 77.10% as a consequence of the capital increase needed to to up the freezing capacity.
The company's goal is to push exports through a diversification strategy focused on pre-cooked products, and on commercial expansion in Latin America’s southern cone.
