Canada works on aquaculture plan on back of ISA cases

Canadian authorities are working with aquaculture companies to develop a management plan for the industry, which will address biosecurity issues such as infectious salmon anemia (ISA), reported The Telegram. The Bay Management Plan follows five cases of ISA in Canada's Coast of Bays within the past 18 months. The province is very concerned about these cases, and about managing and mitigating the virus' impact, said fisheries minister Derrick Dalley.The latest ISA cases involved a Gray Aquaculture site at Pass My Can and a Cooke Aquaculture operation at Manuel’s Arm, which are both located in the northeast part of Bay d’Espoir.The province has also increased its vigilance, particularly in the region, in terms of testing and inspections, said Dalley.Full story here.
