BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Godaco Seafood, a private equity-backed Vietnamese pangasius processor, is to open a new plant to expand its production in value-added products.
The formerly public company, which took an investment from Navis Capital in 2013 and was taken private as a result, will open the new factory, in Ben Tre province, in July, said Jonathan Wilson, an executive director with the company.
Wilson declined to reveal the investment in the plant to Undercurrent News.
The plan is to use the plant to process a range of value-added pangasius products, but also shrimp, he told Undercurrent, speaking during the 2016 Brussels seafood show.
This will include marinated, breaded and skewer fish products, as well as stretched shrimp for sushi. Then, Wilson said Godaco would also look at processing other species, such as Alaska pollock.
Godaco already has two plants, one also in Ben Tre, which is used for more fillets and portions. In addition, the company has a plant in Me Tha, which is in Tien Gang province, which is more focused on commodity pangasius fillet business [...]
