The Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) has welcomed Cornelis Vrolijk as a funding partner, it has announced. Cornelis Vrolijk is an internationally-operating fishing company based in IJmuiden, the Netherlands. It catches, farms, processes and trades fish and shrimp. “As a family business, focusing on responsible fishing practices with a long term-perspective and maintaining healthy fish stocks is integral to Cornelis Vrolijk's business operations. This approach is synonymous with our global non-competitive effort towards more sustainable seafood for everyone.” said Herman Wisse, managing director, GSSI. “Cornelis Vrolijk is happy to partner with GSSI,” added Aukje Coers, corporate social responsibility manager. “We believe GSSI plays an important role in the development and recognition of clear and consistent certification standards. As Herman pointed out, responsible fishing operations are very important for us. We depend on the ocean and it is our job to sustainably catch the so-called ‘surplus’. This way, we can provide seafood to consumers worldwide today, while ensuring food security for future generations.”
