Chinese farmed shrimp production could be just 400,000 metric tons per year, according to an aquaculture expert based in the country, which would mean far lower Chinese shrimp consumption than currently estimated and potentially less future demand.
Alfredo Medina, technical sales support manager at Belgium-based aquaculture nutrition company INVE Aquaculture, told Undercurrent News shrimp production has declined significantly in China as it is no longer profitable in some areas to farm shrimp because of low production efficiency.
