TRONDHEIM, Norway -- When listing the world's primary aquaculture hotspots, Saudi Arabia rarely comes under much consideration; but this may not be the case for much longer if the country's ambitious "Vision 2030" plans come to fruition.
Undercurrent News reported on the Middle Eastern country's bold infrastructure plans in early June, but representatives from the National Fisheries Development Program (NFDP) were on hand to delve into detail at AquaNor 2019, held in August in Trondheim, Norway.
Currently, aquaculture in Saudi Arabia produces roughly 77,000 metric tons per year, according to Mosleh Fayez Alzobidi, Vice CEO of the NFDP. This accounts for just over half of Saudi Arabia's total seafood production, which presently stands at 140,000t annually [...]
