The US Coast Guard (USCG) has suspended its efforts to locate and save a 36-year-old man who went overboard Monday while fishing for scallops off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts, South Coast Today reports. The man, who has yet to be identified, was serving as one of the seven members of the crew of the Blue Wave, a vessel owned by New Bedford, Massachusetts-based Blue Harvest Fisheries. The man, who was a first-time member of the crew but reported to be an experienced fisher, wasn't wearing a life jacket, according to the USCG.
The vessel, which had left port on Friday and was expected to be on the water for eight to 10 days, returned to New Bedford Tuesday morning.
Crews from the USCG Air Station Cape Cod and Coast Guard Cutter Tybee carried out the search, which covered 1,444 square nautical miles, according to the newspaper [...]
