Hundreds of containers of frozen shrimp from Ecuador have likely been rejected by Chinese authorities due to positive tests for COVID-19 in samples from packaging, according to a senior executive with one of the country's largest shrimp importers.
"There are rumors that more than 1,000 containers have been blocked," Pan Hongyu, operations director of Quanlian Aquatic Products, which claims to be the biggest shrimp importer in China, told Seafood Guide.
"I think there won’t be that many, but for sure, there must be 600 containers that have been rejected," said Pan. In March, China’s Evergreen Group acquired a 51% stake in Quanlian Aquatic, with the aim of taking the company public within three-to-five years [...]
