Former ‘Codfather’ vessel carved into scrap following Blue Harvest bankruptcy

The Ilha Brava II was one of 12 vessels and 27 permits sold to Blue Harvest Fisheries, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in early 2020 after Carlos Rafael pleaded guilty to mislabeling more than 782,000 pounds of fish over a four-year period

The Ilha Brava II, a 38-year-old,  76.5-foot long, 800 horse-power vessel, once hunted groundfish in the seas around New England for commercial fishing mogul Carlos Rafael. But on Friday (Oct. 13), hydraulic shears were used to rip into the vessel's sea-green hull, rendering it for scrap to be trucked to a recycling center in Middleboro, Massachusetts, reports The New Bedford Light.   [...]
