Drought and heat could cost the crawfish industry in the US state of Louisiana nearly $140 million this year, according to recent analysis from Louisana State University (LSU)
The LSU Agriculture Center estimates the drought affected about 45,000 acres of crawfish ponds and that farmers will be prevented from fishing another 43,000 acres because of saltwater intrusion or lack of water, reports Layfayette-based KATC TV.
Todd Fontenot, crawfish extension agent for the center, reportedly told KATC that this year's heat and drought have put the industry in uncharted waters [...]
