After Argentina's fishing industry reported a weak start to the illex fishing season, Chinese vessels operating near Argentina's 200-nautical-mile exclusive economic zone (EEZ) have also reported low catches.
China's distant water fishing fleet has gone 20 days with little-to-no improvement in their haul of illex squid, according to Huacai Zhaoyu, China’s largest squid trading platform. Illex is one of the world's biggest commercial species.
"Fishing got underway from around Dec. 20, but as yet, the season has been at a standstill for 20 consecutive days," Huacai said in a Jan 11 WeChat notice, citing messages received from vessels operating in the South Atlantic [...]
