The most-read story from last week was the news that Northline Seafoods and Circle Seafoods are set to make waves in the US state of Alaska this summer. The two Washington state-based companies both anticipate fishermen will be able to unload their catch at their floating freezer barges during the upcoming salmon season. It will be a first for the state's salmon fisheries, which have traditionally depended on shoreside plants for processing.
India, Ecuador and Vietnam -- three of the four largest US sources of farmed shrimp -- finally learned on March 26 that, likely as soon as the end of that week, they would be forced to pay preliminary countervailing duties (CVD) ranging from less than 2% to as much as 196%.
