Norwegian aquaculture business Sigerfjord Fisk lost 200,000 fish recently when a pressurized oxygen cone exploded, reported iLaks, citing Bladet Vesteralen (BLV).
The firm produces Arctic char, and is based in Vesteralen. Managing director Trond Geir Reinsnes told BLV the fish had been sized 40-50 grams, and were due to be harvested in 2026.
It also might have been much worse -- the generation at the facility numbered some 650,000 fish. Around 450,000 remain, which should mean a harvest of 320 metric tons once the company has increased the harvest weight to try and offset the losses somewhat.
