Norwegian cod farmer Norcod has expanded its reach in the UK marketplace, with its products now available in northern England grocery chain Booths Supermarkets, distributor Maris Seafoods said on Linkedin.
Booths locations across northern England are now stocking Norcod's cod marketed under the farm-raised label. The cod is raised in ocean pens situated in Norwegian fjords.
The supply deal was reached through Lancashire-based firm My Fish Company, which describes itself as an independent, family-run wholesale fish and seafood supplier.
The expansion in UK retail follows a doubling of Norcod’s Q2 revenues to NOK 86 million ($8.2m) in the three months to the end of June, up 121% year-over-year.
The company also reduced production costs per kilogram by nearly 40% compared to last year. However, Norcod still posted an operating loss of NOK 47m in the quarter.
Norcod recently launched its 'Snow Cod' product brand in selected markets, working with the Norwegian Seafood Council and industry players to develop the brand worldwide, said the firm. The branding effort complements Norcod's push to grow annual production to 10,000 metric tons, the company said.
