The Icelandic Food Agency has received a report from salmon farmer Kaldvik regarding an accident involving the spillage of farmed salmon at the company's land-based facility in Kopaskeri while fry were being transferred from its Randinn farm to a well boat.
The investigation revealed that equipment used for transporting the juvenile salmon broke apart on the deck of the well boat, leading to the release of up to 300 fry into the sea. The leak was promptly stopped, and Kaldvík's staff implemented their contingency plan, deploying nets to contain the escaped fish. However, after 13 hours of monitoring, no salmon were captured in the nets.
The Icelandic Food Agency continues to monitor the situation, ensuring all protocols are followed to prevent further incidents, it said.
