An animal welfare charity claims it filmed large amounts of dead and dying salmon being removed from Dunstaffnage fish farm near Oban, just hours before Members of Scottish parliament (MSP) visited, BBC reported.
The MSPs, part of the Scottish rural affairs committee, were conducting a fact-finding mission related to a follow-up inquiry on the sector's progress since a critical 2018 report raised environmental concerns.
Animal Equality UK accused the fish farm operator, Scottish Sea Farms, of portraying a "wholly inaccurate" picture of the industry. Scottish Sea Farms defended the footage, describing the removal of fish as routine and part of standard care.
The committee acknowledged receiving concerns about fish mortalities during its inquiry, and the new footage has prompted further questions.
Representatives from the salmon industry will address the committee next week.
