China is looking to partner with Bangladesh to develop seafood processing and export facilities in the country, the Chinese ambassador revealed last Wednesday (Oct. 2), reports Seafood Network Bangladesh.
Ambassador Yao Wen discussed China's interest in investing in Bangladeshi seafood processing plants while meeting with officials from Bangladesh’s fisheries and livestock department.
The meeting at China's ministry of fisheries and livestock also covered China's intentions to establish seafood processing factories focused on exporting marine fish to meet the East Asian country's growing demand.
Chinese private sector investment could focus on processing and exporting marine fish, shrimp, crabs, mud eels, jute, jute products and mangoes, given significant demand in China for Bangladeshi seafood and agricultural items.
Officials at the meeting included fisheries and livestock adviser Farida Akhtar, department secretary Syed Mahmud Belal Haider and senior Chinese embassy representatives.
