Russian processing company Baltic Coast has acquired five trademarks from bankrupt fish producer ROK-1, winning the auction with a bid of RUB 3 million ($31,140), reports New Prospect.
The brands, which include Krabika, Morskaya Planeta, Fishpik, Arletta, and Fishland, were previously owned by ROK-1, a significant player in the seafood market, until its financial troubles led to bankruptcy.
Baltic Coast is a major fish processing entity with a 23% share of the Russian market. The company operates four factories in the St. Petersburg, Mari El, Leningrad, and Smolensk regions.
Baltic Coast reported revenues of RUB 21.3 billion and a net profit of RUB 509.7m in 2023. The firm is owned by Mikhail Bobrov, whose structures also oversee the company Russian Salmon.
ROK-1, previously owned by Alexander Starobinsky, was once a significant producer of fish and seafood in Russia, producing 60,000t per year. However, in 2022, the company faced financial difficulties, leading to its bankruptcy in 2023 due to high debt levels and declining sales amid a reduced demand for seafood.
Although Baltic Coast expressed interest in acquiring additional ROK-1 brands, it faced competition. The trademarks Svoya Rybka and A'more were sold to entrepreneur Roman Bykov for RUB 26.4m. Additionally, the brand Forelika was purchased for RUB 550,000 by the Karelia-based trout farm Parola.
