The Canadian government issued a recall for Jinju brand Fish Cakes on Thursday (Oct. 24). The surimi product, which was distributed in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba, is being recalled because of undeclared egg.
Seoul Trading Corp. is the recalling firm in this case, which includes packages of the company's Jinju's Fish Cake 500g (UPC 8 801077 529805) and 1kg (UPC 8 801077 510308).
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed that the recall was triggered by test results that showed egg was in the product, but not declared on the packaging.
There have been "no reported reactions associated with the consumption of these products," CFIA said. However, the federal agency is asking retailers and food service providers not to serve, use, sell or distribute the product.
CFIA said it is conducting a food safety investigation that "may lead to the recall of other products." The agency is also verifying that the industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace.
