Agricultural technology firm Nuseed Nutritional, a subsidiary of Nufarm, has appointed former Skretting executive Evy Vikene as its aquaculture lead for Europe and Norway, the company announced.
The appointment comes as the aquaculture industry grapples with volatile supply chains for marine-based omega-3 ingredients, a crucial component in fish feed.
Vikene, who brings over 25 years of experience from her tenure at Skretting Group, where she most recently served as commercial director, will spearhead the European rollout of Aquaterra, Nuseed's plant-based omega-3 product.
"Aquaterra is going to be vital to stabilizing the omega-3 supply chain," Vikene said in a statement. The proprietary ingredient, derived from genetically modified canola, offers an alternative to traditional fish-based sources of DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids.
Benita Boettner, global general manager for Nuseed Nutritional, cited Vikene's "deep understanding of omega-3 supply challenges" as crucial to the company's expansion plans in Norway and the broader European market.
The technology behind Nuseed's omega-3 canola was developed in partnership with Australia's CSIRO and the Grains Research and Development Corporation. The company's Aquaterra product line has received Friend of the Sea certification, positioning it as a sustainable alternative to fishmeal from wild-caught fisheries.
