A UK multimillionaire businessman has vowed to invest "substantial resources" into launching more covert investigations to expose environmental breaches in the salmon farming industry, reports The Times.
A police investigation was launched in October after The Times published footage which appeared to show rotting and diseased fish being dumped illegally. The undercover investigation was funded by Dale Vince, a green energy firm owner, who issued the warning to Holyrood's rural affairs and islands committee.
Vince, said his Green Britain Foundation (GBF), an environmental charity and campaign group, would bankroll further surveillance operations.
"I can assure you and the general public that GBF will be dedicating substantial resources to investigating and publicizing the lack of effective oversight and regulation of this industry," he wrote to the all-party group of Scottish parliament members.
Vince said his preference would be for the "immediate closure of all salmon farming operations in Scotland."
