Norway has suffered an escape of salmon smolt at its hatchery at the Glomfjord II location in Meloy municipality, Nordland, Norway, it told the country's directorate of fisheries.
The escape was discovered in connection with the delivery of smolt to a wellboat, and Mowi estimated that some 65,000 salmon smolts had escaped.
The company has set out recapture nets outside the site, and as of Dec. 8, had recaptured approximately 1,400 smolts. The fish are about 120 grams on average.
The directorate will follow up the incident with supervision, according to normal procedures, it said.
