US wholesale prices for lobster tails and meat remain generally steady to firm in week 5 of 2025 (Jan. 27 - Feb. 02), according to Undercurrent News' assessment published on Wednesday (Jan. 29).
There was, however, a surprise willingness to move larger cold water tails in an effort to turnover holdings.

Despite limited inventory and ongoing production, there was some surprise willingness to compete on larger tails. There were no changes on the smaller sizes, but supplies range barely adequate to short in some cases.
A confluence of factors led to lower price action on the bigger sizes.
First, Canadian packers are taking advantage of a strong US dollar to move product as early as they can, even if it means moving full inventory ahead of the new season. That decision has been helped along by the uncertainty over tariffs. Once shifted over the border, carrying costs have become an issue, which is helping to motivate the sales process.
Frozen meat
The frozen meat market continues to trade within listed levels. Supply challenges are greater than the tail market and inventory continues to shrink. Sellers hold product with confidence and offers are being held firm.
Warm Water Tails
The assessments did not change this week. Buying activity is rated adequate for the current inventory level, which is butting up against the end of the season in the Bahamas.
While prime sizes are more in demand, most sizes are stable. Sellers will continue to monitor supply and the influence of cold water tails on the market.
